There is a paved road that parallels the canal from Lake Natoma, near Nimbus Dam, to Sloughhouse Road, approximately 14 miles. Cyclists and hikers may use the trail and can enter from any road which crosses the canal. Bicycle safety rules are in effect at all times. Motor vehicles are not permitted on the trail.

Special attention to safety is necessary when crossing Hazel, Sunrise and White Rock Road. Cyclists and hikers must leave the canal access road and cross these busy streets at grade.
